I grew up naturally, as a naturalist, I don't know why.  Maybe Mother Earth was more my mother, nurturing me more than anyone. In the '70's I wore my green and white striped ecology symbol socks to school replete with my green and white stretchy polyester terry tank top and shorts....I read Mother Earth News through High School in spite of teachers saying that was nonsense.  In 1981, my late husband and I built our own solar hot water heater at a workshop presented by the Coastal Bend Solar Energy Society.  Dietrick Braun, the president was the architect on our house plans.  These included a southern orientation, a thermal chimney via a clear story of high windows on the back side that opened.  I did my first energy audit in the '80's too.  Now, I am a Green REALTOR® or EcoBroker®.  I help sellers sell and buyers buy homes with green attributes all the while teaching people about green living.  Some of the green home components have included blue jean insulation, total rainwater collection for the sole water source, insulated concrete panel construction, whole house HEPA filter, whole house dehumidifier, low or no VOC construction, xeriscaping and other green features.  One home I recently marketed had Peter Pfeiffer, the GREEN Guru of Austin, Texas as architect and was featured on HGTV as a special Earth Week presentation.
